    This position is responsible in creating operating instructions, how-to manuals, assembly instructions, and “frequently asked questions” pages to help users within a company.  

    Position Summary/Purpose

    Project Responsibilities:

    • Study product/schemas that are to be implemented and talk with Technical Staff and developers
    • Understand the basis the technical documentation required as per Scope of Work
    • Organize and write supporting documents for product/schemas that has been configured
    • Use snapshots, drawings and diagrams that increases readers understanding


             General Responsibilities:

    • Maintaining an in-depth knowledge of the objectives and direction of the project.
    • Advising technical staff on document trends, compiling training documents and writing technical reports

    Responsibilities/Main Activities

    It should be noted that Technical Writer supplied to PETRONAS GTS shall only focus on the configurations/customizations done to the following software (P-EDMS (SPO), SDV,2D, S3D only)


    Aid in the production of the following documents:

    1. User & Administration manual
    • Publishing of 2D & 3D to P-EDMS
    • Document Management (EDW & FDW)
    • Using SDV for Data Validation to EDW
    • Develop documentation on instructions to manage handover from EDW to FDW using SDV
    • Develop user manual on instructions to utilize EMOC functionalities
    • Develop documentations on instructions to navigate between FDW and interfaces (SAP, APM, OSI PI & SharePoint)
    • Develop documentation on instructions to utilize functionalities on TML, FMT & Corrosion Loop
    1. Training documentation (Lab Courses)
    • PPM shall create training document (Lab Courses) for Users and Administrators
    • The contents of the training documentation shall reflect the configured systems.
    • Training documentation shall be created for the following:

    -Document Management System (EDW & FDW)
    -SDV for Data Validation (EDW)
    -Handover from EDW to FDW (using SDV)
    -P-EDMS interface to SAP, APM, OSI PI, & SharePoint
    -TML, FMT & Corrosion Loop


    Qualifications and Experience Required


    • Degree level qualifications in Engineering, Computer Science/ IT is desirable.
    • > 5 years working experience.
    • Minimum years working experience in an Engineering Company or Owner Operator environment.
    • English communication skill for discussion, email and reporting.
    • Presentation skills including the ability to tailor and conduct presentations to meet the needs of different customers.

     Desired :

    • Experience with existing documentation software in the market shall be preferred. Working knowledge on SmartPlant Foundation, SmartPlant Owner/Operator and Smartplant Fusion shall be an added advantage.
    • Ability to travel extensively to client site in Pengerang and work within tight schedule.
    • Ability to follow up tasks and requests.

    Current KPI Requirements

    1. To be able to gather and finalize requirements

    2. Conduct workshops with relevant stakeholders

    3. Creates, develops, plans, writes and edits operational, instructional, maintenance or test procedures for paper, multimedia or web-based publication. 

    4. Conduct interviews with various users and technical staff to gather data for documentation.   

    5. Researches and translates technical information inton manuals and/or web-based documents for non-technical and tecnhical users.

    6. Recommends formats responsive to technical and customer requirements. 

    7. Produces products that conform to the company documentation and quality assurance standards



    1. The technical details need to be specific to show the instructions a user will need to follow, including steps in a process and tools being used.

    2. The documentation needs to be attainable in terms of what it is teaching to the audience, i.e. if the user is not high-level, then the writing needs to written to a lower level.

    3. The writing in a document needs to function in a certain time period, or it needs to be timely in terms of information that is up to date.
